Why I Went Holistic Part 2

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

In spring of 2008, my dog Dasher started showing symptoms of congestive heart failure.

The trips to ER began in May 2008 and were consistently taking place from that point on every month.  The vets that cared for him were never able to determine if he had congestive heart failure or if he had pneumonia. They even questioned lung cancer but ruled that out based on blood tests.

Dasher was a very sensitive and emotional boy with aggression issues (he was a rescue dog); so each time he went to the vet, he would stress out to no end i.e. biting vet techs and thrashing around to the point of causing injury to his neck.

I was at a loss of what to do for him. I was frustrated because the same symptoms would occur over and over again, but the vets never had an answer other than to put him on a bunch of different meds. Each trip to the ER, I would sit in the waiting room wondering how in the world we are going to be able to continue doing this. Not only was I becoming more in debt from the vet bills, but my poor boy would stress out so much that I often worried he would have a heart attack. He was an older dog, in his teens so I worried how the stress would harm him.

Finally, in October 2008, I discovered Nadine M. Rosin’s book, The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood.

What caught my attention about Ms. Rosin’s book was the fact that she cured her dog Buttons of cancer through holistic care. I never even considered alternative options for Dasher until I read Ms. Rosin’s book. I am forever grateful to Ms. Rosin for writing The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood. It is her book that inspired me to seek alternative options for Dasher’s health issues.

I started Dasher onto the path of holistic care and homeopathy in late December 2008. Dasher’s congestive heart failure symptoms started to fade away.

He had a few relapses, but through homeopathy, I was able to help him without rushing him to ER. We were able to avoid ER trips the entire year of 2009 through homeopathy! 2009 was Dasher’s happiest and healthiest year with us.

We adopted Dasher in 2005 and weren’t sure how we were going to be able to increase his quality of life, though that’s what our goal was.

He was a little guy who didn’t trust us when we first adopted him. Even though he was little, he had very big teeth. I can’t even begin to count how many times Dasher bit me. People thought we were crazy to keep such an aggressive dog. He had my heart from day one though and I was determined to help him!

It was very hard to cuddle him during his first couple of years with us.

He learned to trust us more as time went on but it wasn’t until 2009 when Dasher became our little lover. He was feeling better physically, which helped him feel better mentally and emotionally. We were so excited! Finally, I was able to cuddle Dasher, kiss his nose and give him massages, something I never was able to do prior to holistic care. We swore he was getting younger. We were able to take him on some great camping trips in 2009, something we thought we might not have the chance of ever doing when he first started having heart and lung problems.

Sadly Dasher passed away December 19, 2009 in my arms.

We are blessed that he decided to go on his own. Minutes before he passed on, I heard him thanking me for everything we did for him. There was a look in his eyes that my husband and I will never forget. In his eyes, he told us that we finally reached our dream of making him happy. He knew everything we did for him was to help him. I will always remember how I heard him tell me over and over about how grateful he was to us.

We were all blessed to be with Dasher during his final moments. His brothers were loving him during his last full day with us.

We aren’t really sure how old Dasher was but I feel blessed to have finally been able to help him have a high quality life, to let him know that he was finally home and that there was no more need for him to be aggressive.

I owe Dasher’s last year of happiness to Nadine M. Rosin.

Her book is what got me started on researching holistic care and homeopathy. Through the research and seeing how well Dasher responded to holistic care, I was inspired to study veterinary homeopathy of which I am now a student of.

Thank you Nadine, for sharing Buttons’ story.

Your book is saving the lives of many pets. I know if I would have continued with traditional medicine, my Dasher would not have lived as long as he did. He would not have been able to go on the camping trips we took with him this past year. We would’ve never gotten to know the happy Dasher that bloomed in 2009 if we followed the advice of the traditional vets; they would’ve just kept him on a bunch of drugs for the rest of his life. Never mind what the stress alone would’ve done to him. Nadine, your book The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood opened a brand new world to me and led me to discover what a teacher my boy Dasher was and continues to be.
