In 2004, my husband and I adopted a small Italian greyhound mix. We didn’t know his age but we were sure he was an older guy. His teeth were in bad shape and he kind of walked around as if he were holding a cane. We named him Dasher because of his long legs and his several attempts to “dash” out the front door. As cute as he was, we soon discovered that he had teeth like Jaws and was ready and willing to bite our hands off at any time. (more…)

If you take your dog to the dog park, kennels, grooming salons, veterinary waiting rooms or day care facilities, it is very important for you to know everything there is about kennel cough. While it is rarely fatal, it is an airborne virus you do not want your canine buddies to go through. If you have recently adopted a dog from a shelter, be sure to quarantine him/her from any other doggie pals for a few days just to be sure that they are not infected with kennel cough. It’s very common in shelters and even with the Bordetella vaccination, it is still contagious.
