From a Pet Sitter’s Perspective (doors/windows/gates, oh my!)

The last thing anyone wants to receive while they’re out of town is a call from their pet sitter saying something is wrong.

One of the many things that can go wrong when a pet sitter is caring for your home involves doors, windows, gates and locks. How so you ask? Please read the following scenarios to learn how you can prevent such issues from occurring.

1.  Make sure your locks are easy to unlock/lock so that the house key does not get stuck in the lock.

A good way to prevent this is with WD40.  Otherwise, the chance of the key breaking in the lock is possible.

2.  Make sure all doors that are entrances into your home open/close easily.

If your door is locked and closed, but can still be pushed opened, please do whatever possible to make sure this isn’t the case when you have a pet sitter caring for your home.

3.  Make sure all door knobs that are a part of entrances into your home are secure, i.e. they are not wobbly, cannot fall off.

If this happens while your pet sitter is caring for your home, they will not be able to leave your house until the issue is fixed, which will be added onto your bill.

4.  Make sure all automatic garage door sensors have nothing heavy blocking them from being closed.

An open garage is an invite to the pubic to check out your home.

5. Make sure all fences/gates are locked and secure.

If you have dogs, you don’t want them to be able to dig out of the yard, jump over the fence or run out of the yard because the gate does not close properly.

6.  Make sure all windows/screens are secure.

Windows that don’t close properly, screens that are ripped, etc make your home accessible to the public and give your dog/cat access to escape.

Your pet sitter is not familiar with your home the way you are. In order to help out your pet sitter, please be sure all of the little obstacles are taken care.

Otherwise, less time is put towards your furry kids and more is added onto your bill because of the time involved with the obstacles.
