Today I learned about the “Blog the Change for Animals“, a site that is encouraging all bloggers to write about their favorite cause that helps animals.
I’ve already written one post on my other blog site at Dasher’s Window to Wellness. In the post, I write about a wonderful memorial fund that supports ex-puppy mill dogs and dogs with serious health issues. I also decided to bring attention to another dedicated cause, a local nonprofit rescue organization named Strangest Angels Rescue.
Strangest Angels Rescue was founded by Elle Wittelsbach. Elle focuses on helping animals on deathrow, as well as abused, neglected, senior and disabled animals.
In the photo to the right is Sylvester. He’s one of the recent dogs rescued by Strangest Angels Rescue. He has two uncomfortable masses that need to be removed. Surgery is estimated to be around $700.00. Sylvester is just one of many of the dogs rescued by Strangest Angels that is in need of medical care. The vet bills are never ending. Since Strangest Angels is a nonprofit organization, they rely on donations to pay for all medical bills for the animals they rescue.
Strangest Angels Rescue is close to my heart as I adopted a dog from them in April 2010.
Norman is his name. Elle was kind enough to bring him to my house so that I could meet him and make sure he’d fit into my pack. It was love at first sight. To think that Norman was on the “red list” just because he was a “senior dog”. If it wasn’t for Elle taking Norman in, who knows if he would’ve made it out of the shelter alive.
In honor of Norman being rescued from the shelter the week of my birthday last year, I’m throwing a fundraiser for my birthday wish to help Strangest Angels with their vet bills and to help them be able to rescue more dogs that are on deathrow.

Norman
My birthday is at the end of January, so I’m hoping we can reach our goal by January 31, 2011. If you can network the FUNDRAISER FOR STRANGEST ANGELS RESCUE to help out a wonderful rescue organization, you’d be making a positive difference! Even if you can’t make a donation, you can help by spreading the word.
To learn more about Elle Wittelsbach and Strangest Angels Rescue, please watch this VIDEO. It is worth the time to watch so you know where your donations are going!

Beautiful Opal
Otto and Opal are brother and sister, both wondering when they’ll find their forever mom and/or dad.
Their approximate DOB is 8/15/2009. They were 2 of 6 puppies that were dumped at the shelter with their mom when they were less than 2 weeks old. Their mom was a pure bred Miniature Schnauzer. Their dad was from an unknown heritage! The pups look like Border Terriers although it is doubtful that’s what they are. Whatever their mix is, we can only say cute, cute, cute!
Both Otto and Opal are well socialized, friendly pups. They are pretty much where they will be size wise at approximately 16 pounds.
Their mom and all of their siblings have already been adopted, but Otto and Opal are patiently awaiting for the right family to adopt them.

Handsome Otto
If you think either or both pups might fit in your family (They don’t have to go home together but how wonderful it would be if they could!) please contact Miniature Schnauzers and Friends Rescue.

Flash is handsome cattle dog/shepherd mix looking for his forever home.
Flash is a young boy, his approximate date of birth is: 9/10/09.
Flash was found running on the streets with no tags or chip. He is healthy, has been neutered and given all his shots. He is a good boy who wants to please and gets along well with other dogs - don’t know about cats. He is ready for his permanent forever home. He is going to be a big boy weighing in at 54 lbs now so we expect he will put on another 10 to 20 lbs before he is full grown. He needs a gentle alpha owner committed to a minimum of basic training with follow-up training as needed. We will only place him with someone who has extensive puppy and large dog experience.

Sadie is a 7 year old female Miniature Schnauzer.
Sadie is an extremely sweet girl and gets along well with other dogs. She’s a big girl for a mini schnauzer weighing 22 pounds…but is 100% pure love.
06/01/2010 UPDATE: At Sadie’s vet visit of 5/3/2010 we found she had a bladder stone and required surgery for its removal. Sadie had surgery on 5/17/2010 to remove the bladder stone as well as removing a fatty lump and having a dental done on her. On 5/28/2010, Sadie had an adverse auto immune reaction to her recent bladder stone surgery… requiring emergency surgery to remove blood clots from her bladder and a 4 day hospital stay to stablize her. We thought we were going to lose her but she is now healing. Subsequent blood work shows Sadie is almost ready to go home! Her medical expenses to date are $2600. Any contribution towards her vet bills will be greatly appreciated.
If you’re interested in Sadie, please contact Miniature Schnauzers and Friends!!!

Fletcher is a 10 year old Miniature Schnauzer who is yet again looking for his forever home. Will that home be yours?
Fletcher first entered Miniature Schnauzers and Friends Rescue (MSFR) when his original owners moved out of state and said they couldn’t take him.
He was adopted several months later into what MSFR thought was a permanent, loving and committed home. As unbelievable as it is, it breaks our hearts that almost 5 years later Fletcher finds himself homeless again because his adopters are retiring and chose to move to a place that does not allow dogs. Poor Fletcher deserves so much more than this in his golden years. We hope to find someone with a big enough heart for an older fellow that has had his share of hard times. Fletcher needs a FOREVER home this time! He’s a gentle soul that wants nothing more than a loving and committed family.
Adoption is a lifetime commitment!
Fletcher should be a reminder to us all… please do not adopt unless you can make a commitment for the animal’s entire lifetime.
If you’re interested in Fletcher, please contact Miniature Schnauzers and Friends Rescue and let them know you found out about Fletcher from BocMeow’s “Foster Dog Spot Light” program!

Mercedes is a very sweet little puppy girl! Her approximate date of birth is 2/10/10
Mercedes is a pure bred female Miniature Schnauzer puppy.
She was one of four puppies that were dumped at a high kill shelter because their owner had “too many dogs”. We believe Mercedes and her siblings are the result of a backyard breeder’s litter that were the “left overs”.

Sleeping Mercedes-this photo was taken at a fundraiser for MSFR where there were many dogs and people. She was mellow the entire time!
NOTE: Mercedes was diagnosed with a mild heart murmur. Ultrasound showed she has mild Pulmonary Stenosis. Dr. Michael Lesser a Cardiologist of Advanced Veterinary Care Center examined her and did an ultrasound. He determined her case was very mild and that no surgery or medical intervention was required. Dr. Lesser said it’s very likely that she’ll have a normal life expectancy without ever needing any medical intervention for her heart. But he did say she should have another ultrasound at 1 year old. For more information on Pulmonary Stenosis, click HERE.

My name is Shay. Will you be the lucky one to take me home?
Shay is a 1.5 year old male purebred Siberian Husky.
He is very active and enjoys playing with other dogs. He is gentle and quiet for the most part as long as he gets plenty of exercise. Shay was rescued off the streets in north Gardena.
Although young, he’s had quite an adventurous life, and now he needs to settle down in a permanent home with loving people who will keep him safe.
An ideal home for Shay has to include a spacious yard with secure and high fencing. He hates to be confined, and if he feels trapped, he will make every attempt to escape. He will also try to escape if he gets bored and lonely. He would be happiest living with another high-energy dog that he can play and bond with. Shay will need to be housetrained. Obedience training is highly recommended. Shay is approximately 45 pounds.
Interested in Shay?
Contact Miniature Schnauzers and Friends Rescue and let them know you found out about Shay through BocMeow’s Foster dog of the Month program.
